National Institute of Justice Program Retains International Biometric Group to Evaluate Facial Recognition Technology

WHEELING, West Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 19, 2000--The Office of Law Enforcement Technology Commercialization (OLETC), a program of the National Institute of Justice, has retained International Biometric Group (IBG) to perform an in-depth valuation of facial recognition technology in the law enforcement market.

OLETC has developed, through National Institute of Justice funding, a three-dimensional facial recognition technology known as Integrated Law Enforcement Face-identification System (ILEFIS).

``Now that we are seeking to bring the ILEFIS technology to the commercial marketplace, we have retained a leading biometric integration and consulting firm to perform a technology audit,'' said Lawrence Kosiba, director of OLETC. ``IBG is the logical choice to evaluate ILEFIS and its market potential. A key consideration was that IBG is an independent firm with extensive experience evaluating and integrating biometrics in real world applications.''

IBG's technology audit for OLETC is a groundbreaking analysis that presents a thorough examination of the facial recognition industry and its potential for growth over the next five years. IBG performs independent technology audits for a variety of customers, including biometric vendors seeking an objective evaluation of their products, investors performing due diligence and major corporations considering large-scale biometric rollouts.

``IBG has been evaluating biometric technologies for years; our knowledge of the state-of-the-art in the industry has been essential to our successful deployments of biometric solutions,'' said Raj Nanavati, partner at International Biometric Group. ``An independent technology audit is critical for any organization with a substantial commitment to biometrics.''
