IBG Completes Extensive Biometric Analysis for Transportation Security Administration

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 6, 2002--International Biometric Group announced today that it has delivered a final report evaluating biometrics in a range of large-scale, mission-critical air travel applications to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

This evaluation, which commenced in February 2002, assesses how biometrics can be applied to resolving the challenges associated with Passenger Processing, Employee Access Control, and Surveillance applications. The US Department of Transportation has plans for short-term pilot demonstrations of biometric security solutions in transportation facilities around the country.

Biometric technologies such as finger-scan, facial-scan, iris-scan, voice-scan and hand-scan are being considered as potential solutions for employee and traveler authentication in air travel environments. International Biometric Group's independent, real-world experience in evaluating and deploying biometric technologies, along with its position as the industry leader in technology-neutral system design, allowed it to provide the TSA with a systematic and comprehensive evaluation of many complex biometric issues. IBG employed its Large-Scale Project Evaluation methodology to first develop a concept of operations for each of the three focus applications, then assessed the system impact, business case, and logistics for piloting and deploying these technologies.

"IBG is honored to have been chosen by the TSA to provide an independent assessment of these complex applications," stated Michael Thieme, Director of Special Projects for International Biometric Group. "Successful real-world deployment of biometrics in large-scale applications requires an understanding of the substantial challenges involved in performance, interoperability, standards, privacy, and logistical issues."
