National Institute of Justice Awards Multimodal Biometric Fusion Research Grant to International Biometric Group
The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) has awarded International Biometric Group (IBG) a research grant to develop multiple-biometric systems based on fusion of fingerprint, face recognition, and iris recognition technologies. The $431,556 grant was awarded under the NIJ 2005 Sensor, Surveillance, and Biometrics Technologies for Criminal Justice solicitation.
The grant for Efficient, Field-Optimized Multimodal Biometric System research will support development of high-accuracy, high-throughput multimodal biometric systems for justice applications.
The grant enables IBG to test fusion and normalization techniques using algorithms from leading fingerprint, face recognition, and iris recognition vendors. Based on this testing, IBG will develop multimodal components for use in real-world identification systems, access control systems, and other justice applications.
The NIJ grant further establishes IBG's leadership position in multimodal biometric research and system development. In addition to ongoing research initiatives, IBG is currently delivering large-scale multimodal biometric systems to US Federal Government customers.
