Biometrics vs. Passwords and PINs

A typical 4-digit pin code is typically thought to have a false accept rate of 1 in 10,000 (10 x 10 x 10 x 10 =10,000). Some groups have used this as a basis for establishing minimum false acceptance rates for biometric technology, proposing that a biometric should not be any less secure than a PIN.
